How Indie Filmakers Can Get Their Films on ITUNES

rooneyguitar.jpg

From a blog post by Scott Kirsner at his blog CinemaTech located here

Apple doesn’t make it easy for Indie filmakers to get their films on Itunes.  Here’s some organizations that have had success doing it.  Your best bet is to contact one of these companies and work through them.  Let us know how it goes!

New Video seems to be getting a lot of full-length features onto iTunes, including “King Corn” and “Bomb It,” both recently-released docs, and Henry Jaglom’s “Eating,” from 2004. They also connected Ed Burns with iTunes for his latest film, “Purple Violets.” Here’s their contact info.

Shorts International in the UK has distributed a few dozen short films through iTunes, including the recent Oscar-winner “West Bank Story.” Here’s the page that explains how to submit your film.

The Independent Film Channel (IFC) has a handful of features on iTunes, including “Four Eyed Monsters,” “Does Your Soul Have a Cold?” and “Before the Music Dies.”  Contact info here, here, and here.

Mediastile is the company that offered Sundance short films earlier this year on iTunes. One of these films, “Sick Sex,” is currently #2 on iTunes’ list of best-selling shorts, sandwiched in between two Pixar shorts. Mediastile also handled “The Tribe,” a short film that played at Sundance in 2006, and was briefly an iTunes best-seller last year. Their website is  here.

If you have an indie film or shorts that you’like to see on LoonaticTV, send Zac an email at info (at) loonatictv.com and he’ll work out the details.

The Book-The Rock Star Stories

So they say if you have written a book, you should blog about it before it comes out…..here’s our first attempt at telling you about our book.

Swept Away Tv began in 2000 with some very funny interviews and very humorous interviewers!    The one thing they all had in common was that they all loved music.  We had Nicole Shevloff and Michelle Nash, Travis Sheft, Zac Rich and Jeff Hendler just to name a few.   Over the years Kiersten Koppel and Kelly Blanco, Alison Sikes, Brittany Rich, Tommy Monger, Brittany Reeber and a host of others have been featured online and on air.  If I’ve left out your name, feel free to yell about it!!!

The Rock Star Stories  book is a compilation of interviews from our favorite bands:  bands like The Academy Is, Jack’s Mannequin, My Chemical Romance, New Found Glory, Against Me, The Rocket Summer, Rooney, Metro Station, The Starting Line, Eisley, The All American Rejects, Ace Enders, Cobra Starship, CKY, Gym Class Heroes, Dave Melillo and more. It should be out sometime next summer, about July 2009.
The book is being edited by Aaron Burgess (Alternative Press, Spin magazine and More.  Feel free to check his blog out here and you’ll be impressed because we were!!   The publisher of the book is Orange Avenue Publishing and Zest Books who published the book Indiegirl among others.  Their editorial intern staff help select the interviews and gave additional input into exactly what should be in the book.  We’re pretty confident it will be a winner.

Over the next school year, we’ll keep you up to date with what is happening with the book so you can share in the excitement.  Thanks for being a part of this.

Check out  singer/songwriter Jason Reeves, who was named one of Top Indie Singer-Songwriters of 2007 by iTunes, saying “Jason Reeves has one of those disarmingly soulful voices that makes you want to break down and cry or get married.” Jason was the No. 1 MySpace Folk artist (unsigned) for nine months and made him a fixture in the Top 5 Acoustic (unsigned) and Top 20 Overall (unsigned) categories.

He co-wrote 10 tracks on Colbie Caillat’s platinum-selling breakthrough album “Coco” including hits “Bubbly” and “Realize.” His music has also been featured on One Tree Hill and A Shot At Love With Tila Tequila. His album The Magnificent Adventures of Heartache (and Other Frightening Tales) will be released on Warner Bros. Records digitally on August 12, and in stores on September 9th.
